I love featuring homegrown manufacturers and designers because it showcases the talent and ingenuity of Winnipeg locals. Crown Cap has been in the hat-making business for 82 years. They are known in the city not only for their world-class products but also their contribution to the community.
A Brief History of Crown Cap
Founded in 1932, Crown Cap began manufacturing textile headwear for the farm trade in Western Canada. Their fitted work caps were used by workers on the prairies. Fast forward to 1987, Paul Leinburd acquired the company and expanded its offerings.
Leinburd saw the need for luxury headwear so he decided to combine the impressive old-world skills of Crown Cap with the finest fur and leather in the world. This was the company’s first step to becoming a global fashion franchise.
The Core of Crown Cap
Every brand has their core strength—the thing that differentiates them from the rest. Crown Cap’s exquisite hand crafting matched with their unique designs is what placed them way ahead in the industry today. For more than eight decades, the quality of their headwear never diminished.
They have drawn the attention of well-known designers from around the world because of their stunning and stylish creations. Crown Cap has always been committed to creating the best products while maintaining their fair and socially responsible business ethics.
There’s more to Crown Cap than just being a global manufacturer of headwear. They are an active contributor to society. The company donates to different charities that help enhance people’s quality of life.
Some of the health-related organizations they support are Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, Riverview Health Foundation, and Canadian Diabetes Association.
They also support art-related and children’s foundations such as the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Manitoba Theatre Centre, Manitoba Opera, Emily Carr School (Gordon Adaskin Fund), and Koats for Kids. Crown Cap also actively contributes to The Salvation Army in Canada.
In the Media
Crown Cap has received extensive media exposure from different magazines and publications—both print and digital. Their fur hats and caps are often recommended on winter style features. Their products made it to front pages, spreads, and inside pages of fashion publications.
